Some common procedures for which international patient often travel to India are:

A total hip replacement: – also called a hip arthroplasty- is an advanced surgical procedure that re-structures the hip joint region.

Under this procedure the head of the femur (the bone that extends from the hip to the knee) is removed along with the surface layer of the socket in the pelvis (the two large bones that rest on the lower limbs and support the spinal column). The head of the femur bone, which is situated within the pelvis socket, is replaced with a metal ball and stem. This stem fits into the shaft of the femur. This socket is then replaced with a plastic or a metal and plastic cup. Hip replacement is indicated where conservative management has failed. Worldwide, more than 1 million hips are replaced annually. With careful patient selection and meticulous surgical technique, good long term results occur in over 90% of cases.

The surgical procedure: At the time of surgery, once the hip joint is exposed, the head and neck of the femur are removed. The shaft of the femur is then adjusted to accept the metal component consisting of the head, neck, and stem. After fixing the plastic cup the ball and socket are then replaced into normal position. Both of these implants can be fastened into the bone with or without using the special cement. (more…)

Dental treatment in India

Maybe you hide your smile because of spaces from lost teeth. Perhaps your dentures don’t feel secure and you have difficulty chewing. If you are missing one or more teeth and would like to smile, speak and eat again with comfort and confidence, Dental implants along with artificial teeth are often good options to fill up the gaps left by tooth loss. Lots of people came across the fact that dental implants are more at ease, efficient and safe than are dentures or bridgework. An artificial tooth root replacement used that are used to counter tooth loss is what is known as DENTAL IMPLANT. Whether you are a young, middle-aged or older adult; whether you require replacing one tooth, a number of teeth, or all your teeth, there is a dental implant solution for you. With the exception of growing children, dental implants are the solution of choice for people of all ages.

In 1952, the first dental implants were developed and ever since then technology has taken leaps and bounds to give us the most contemporary way out for missing teeth. The success rate for implants is remarkable: 98 percent for lower implants and 91 percent for upper implants. With proper care (see below), implants can last a lifetime. A typical implant consists of a titanium screw (resembling a tooth root) with a roughened surface. This surface is treated either by plasma spraying, etching or sandblasting to increase the integration potential of the implant. An osteotomy or precision hole is carefully drilled into jawbone and the implant is installed in the osteotomy. During the placement of a dental implant the objective is to achieve a close contact between the outer surface of the implant and the surrounding bone tissue so that they can FUSE together (osseointegration) creating a stable support for the new teeth. What treatment would I have if I had your Cancer?

Friday, November 27th, 2009

If I had been diagnosed with your cancer 20 years ago I would have accepted any treatment recommended by my doctors because after all they are the experts. However today that is not so and that’s because of one simple reason, knowledge. The study of cancer has taught me many facts which of course I was ignorant of back then. I have learnt why we only have those 3 treatments of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, I have learnt of the ineffectiveness of those 3 treatments, I have learnt who controls the cancer industry and I have learnt there are other, better ways to overcome all cancers.

Now days being 20 years wiser if I was diagnosed with cancer I would apply a little common sense and ask myself a few questions, for instance why did I get cancer in the first place and if I get it surgically removed what’s going to stop it from growing back again since surgery doesn’t address that. Also does it make any sense to use nuclear radiation to burn it out or a poison as in chemotherapy to try and remove it which also won’t stop it coming back. People today accept those treatments because they believe they are the only ways to cure cancer. (more…)

The Cost of IVF is Not All That Bad

Friday, November 27th, 2009

Patients who are considering in vitro fertilization, or IVF, as a fertility service may have wondered about the cost of such a procedure. The actual price tag that this treatment may carry depends on the clinic providing the treatment, as well as other factors.

In the United States, the price of this procedure is rather uniform across the board. However, speaking to a medical professional at a fertility clinic that offers this treatment is the best way to determine the cost of this procedure. Many clinics may offer an estimate of the cost of treatment upon initial consultation. (more…)
